Stoke Spitfires visit Churnet View

At The Talentum Learning Trust, we are proud to foster inclusive and inspiring learning experiences that reflect our core values of aspiration, compassion, integrity, and excellence for all. Recently, one of our schools, Churnet View Middle School, hosted an exciting and meaningful event that perfectly embodies these values — a Wheelchair Basketball workshop led by the Stoke Spitfires.

Promoting Inclusion and Teamwork Through Adaptive Sports

The Stoke Spitfires visit provided Year 6 pupils with a unique opportunity to engage in wheelchair basketball, an adaptive sport that promotes inclusion and accessibility for all. This workshop was designed not only to teach the physical skills involved in the game but also to encourage empathy, teamwork, and understanding of the challenges faced by athletes with disabilities.

Our pupils showed tremendous enthusiasm and energy throughout the session. They quickly embraced the new techniques, demonstrating determination and resilience — qualities that align closely with our Trust’s value of aspiration. It was inspiring to see them work collaboratively, supporting each other as they navigated the sport and learned the importance of cooperation and respect.

Reflecting Our Vision and Values in Action

This event is a example of how The Talentum Learning Trust lives out its vision of “Building together, Excellence in standards, Strength through collaboration, A place where everyone flourishes.”

  • Aspiration: Pupils were encouraged to push themselves physically and mentally, aiming high as they mastered new skills.
  • Compassion: The workshop fostered a caring environment where pupils gained a deeper understanding of inclusion and respect for others’ experiences.
  • Integrity: Pupils demonstrated fairness and honesty as they played and supported their teammates.
  • Excellence for All: By providing this inclusive opportunity, we ensure that every pupil has access to enriching experiences that build confidence and broaden horizons.

A Lasting Impact on Our Pupils

The Wheelchair Basketball workshop was more than just a fun activity — it was a powerful learning experience that left a lasting impression on all involved. Pupils walked away not only with new skills but with a greater appreciation of diversity and the importance of inclusion in sport and everyday life.

Such events are vital in helping us build a vibrant, supportive community where every learner matters and every success is celebrated.

Together, we are building a community where every learner can thrive and achieve their full potential.
